Overview

Compsognathus, or Compy, is a small theropod dinosaur that, with the exception of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, appears in every Acclaim-made Turok game. They are as vicious as their larger cousins and attack in groups.

Appearance[]

Compsognathus is a small, bipedal dinosaur with long hind legs and a long tail, which it used for balance. Its forelimbs are smaller than its hind legs and are endowed with three fingers equipped with strong claws that are adapted to capture prey. Its delicate skull was narrow and long with a pointed snout. The skull had five pairs of fenestrae (skull openings), the longest being the orbits (eye sockets). The eyes were large in proportion to the rest of the skull. Compsognathus could measure up to 30 cm (12 inches) tall, and its average length was one meter (3 ft).

In Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Compies are usually found in groups, feasting on the bodies of fallen soldiers in "The Port of Adia" and "Slaughter by the River of Souls". They have a green/olive skin color.

The Compy of Turok: Rage Wars retains its small stature, but now they appear stockier and are a more vibrant green.

In Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, their size remains relatively the same as in Rage Wars. They appear in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, and they retain the same skin color as in Seeds of Evil. Encounters with these enemies are scarce.

In Turok: Evolution, their body color is either brown or blue, and they sport multiple teeth inside their jaws. They are also slender framed and possess little to no muscle mass.

Gameplay[]

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil[]

Avoid using any weapon on these enemies other than the War Blade or Talon. They move too fast for the Pistol to be useful. Not only that, but they have low health; a blow from the Talon is more than enough to dispatch them.

Turok: Rage Wars[]

Compies appear as playable characters in the Frag Tag game mode and as a skin for the Mantid Mite. One random player is chosen at the beginning of a round to become either a Compy, a Chicken, or a Monkey. This player has only 10 health and cannot attack. The player's only defense is to quickly run to a Retaliation Box, turning them back into a regular character and another random player into a defenseless creature.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion[]

Unlike Seeds of Evil, the Compies move relatively slower than their previous incarnation; the player can opt to use either the Blade/Tomahawk or the Pistol. They still go down in a single swing, but their bite is more dangerous this time.

Turok: Evolution[]

Compsognathus are very weak enemies that rarely, but still do attack Tal'Set. They appear in Chapters 1, 3, 6, and the Zoo. In the multiplayer game mode Last Man, you can also play as a Compy when killed. Their only attack is a short lunge in which the Compy bites the player. It causes about three points of damage, but in large groups, Compies can easily rip the player to pieces.
