Overview

"Greetings, Turok. I am Adon."
—Adon[5]

Adon, the Speaker of Forever Light, is a female extraterrestrial who makes her debut in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.

She has the important role of guiding Turok throughout his/her mission(s) by giving informative briefings on locations, races, and the Primagen himself.

History[]

The Speaker of Forever Light serves as a liaison between the citizens of Galyanna and the Council of Voices, the disembodied consciousnesses of the Lost Land's greatest leaders.

The Council has lived and ruled Galyanna as immortals for thousands of years. Having uploaded their conscious minds into a massive computer system centuries ago, the Council lives on though their bodies have long since perished.

As the only Governess of Galyanna permitted to speak directly with the Council, Adon's position is one of the highest respect, and ultimate sacrifice. The Speaker must serve only the needs of the Council and the people of Galyanna. Although she has served the council faithfully since her mother's untimely death, Adon often longs to be free of her bonds.

Early life[]

Little is known about Adon's life. What is known was that she was born and raised in Galyanna. As such, she is part of an alien race and had a close relationship with her mother, Navaht, who served as the Speaker of Forever Light for centuries.

Adon is a scholar, vizier, sorceress, warrior, born of a noble family, and raised under the scrutiny of her mother's watchful eye. Adon was prepared since birth to take up the position of the Speaker of Forever Light.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil[]

Adon, introducing herself to the new Turok.

Adon is first seen on an inverted pyramid-like structure orbiting through space, patiently waiting for the new Turok's arrival. She then witnesses Joshua Fireseed arrive from a portal and introduces herself. Adon explains to Joshua that she has been chosen by the elders of the Lost Land, the Lazarus Concordance, to guide him throughout his quest to stop the Primagen.

Adon provides an informative briefing on the Primagen and his main objective to destroy each Energy Totem, eradicating both the Lost Land and Earth. She further explains that she will provide Joshua with objectives to help further his mission.

Importance[]

Throughout the game, Adon acts as a helpful guide, as well as providing narration for the player. Before the player starts any level, they are first given a briefing on the area they are about to enter.

This briefing includes a bit of history on the area and its inhabitants. All of the briefings are accompanied by cutscenes of the area and the enemies the player will soon face. Adon then finishes up the narration by stating the player's mission objectives before letting the mission begin, with the last objective always being the defense of the Energy Totem.

During these missions, Adon supervises the player and will inform them on any mission-related event (i.e. objective completion, acquisition of a new weapon, low on health, low on oxygen, etc.)

First Encounter with Oblivion[]

While Joshua Fireseed finally confronts the Primagen, Adon supervises their battle but is stopped for a moment when she feels a dark presence approaching her.

This entity causes a feeling of dread and terror to wash over Adon. Soon after the encounter, she scanned its energy signature. Unfortunately, she was unable to gain any other information on this force, other than the fact that its signature was beyond any other fundamental force.

Adon explains to Joshua that she had picked up traces of the Turok lineage with this force, and that whatever it was, the Fireseed family had dealt with it before.

Multiplayer[]

Adon appears as a playable character in Seeds of Evil's multiplayer mode. She is a very nimble fighter, having more speed than others, but she also starts with 60 health.

Adon compensates for her vulnerability with her power to regenerate health.

Adon appears once more, and this time is participating in the Rage Wars. Her default appearance is based on that of her Seeds of Evil design, while two alternative skins can be unlocked by collecting medals. Her "Seeker" and "Huntress" AI upgrades also feature these alternative designs. Adon is one of four characters that are available at the start.

Competing In the Rage Wars[]

Adon remains the current Speaker of Forever Light and participates in the Rage Wars as a representative of Galyanna.

The Light Burden is now up for grabs, and she fights for her life and the Burden, seeking to uphold the honor of her people and prevent the Light Burden from falling into evil hands, should Joshua fail.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion[]

Two years after the events of Seeds of Evil, the dark force, otherwise known as Oblivion, has returned. Its ever-nearing presence was causing Joshua to have nightmares and prompted him to warn his siblings that they must survive no matter what for the Turok lineage to continue.

Later that night, Joshua is killed when he sets off a bomb to dispose of Oblivion's servants, whom previously attempted to attack the Fireseed in his sleep. The warrior's younger siblings, Danielle and Joseph Fireseed, are all that is currently left of the Turok lineage.

Passing the Mantle[]

Adon first encounters the pair when their truck is attacked by a Mummite. She saves the siblings when she kills the large beast with a blue flash of energy. She then tells them to come with her. The group is transported into the Chamber of Voices, where Adon explains that the Council has summoned the Fireseed siblings.

The Council arrives shortly after and state that they do not know who Danielle and Joseph are. Adon claims that the pair are the "keepers of the light" and the new Turok. The Council has a lengthy debate on who must become the new Turok, as they fear that neither of the two are willingly going to accept.

Danielle and Joseph are left confused with the situation, to which Adon tells the pair that the death of Joshua leaves them no choice but to choose one of the siblings to become Turok. After one of the siblings has chosen to become Turok, Adon resumes her role as a guide for the new Son of Stone.

Saving Joshua[]

Throughout the story, Adon picks up traces of Joshua's spirit and feels that he may still be alive. The extraterrestrial then tries to find answers to these traces. Upon entering a ruined altar in the Lost Land, she finds a small water-filled grotto with the "child is the key" symbol.

A voice of the grotto then begins speaking to Adon, telling her that Joshua can in fact be saved. The voice then tells Adon that she must "seek the Keepers" in order to save the fallen warrior.

After Oblivion is defeated, and its essence removed from Joshua's possessed body, Adon brings this subject to the Council of Voices. They deny all of the Speaker's claims that she can save Joshua and try to stop Adon's pursuit. This leaves Adon frustrated, and she defies the Council's orders, stepping down from her position to save Joshua.

New Speaker of Forever Light[]

After Adon's departure, the Council have already chosen a new Speaker, a woman named Yvree. The new Speaker claims that Adon continues to attempt to save the warrior, because Adon loved Joshua. The Council demand that Yvree stop Adon before she succeeds.

Trivia[]

  • Adon is voiced by Bernadette Nason in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil and Liz Pierce in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion.
  • Adon underwent a great design change from Seeds of Evil to Shadow of Oblivion. She noticeably looks much more human in the latter.
  • In the games, it is unknown if Joshua was aware of Adon's love towards him, though it was mentioned once by Danielle that Joshua spoke of her often. In the comics, however, they fall for each other, but she ultimately sacrifices herself to save the Lost Land, leaving Joshua behind.
  • In the first cutscene of Seeds of Evil it is shown that Adon only has four fingers compared to Joshua's five. This design carries over from her appearance in issue four of Acclaim's Turok comic series, in which she also has four fingers. Though it can be assumed that this is a distinguishing feature of her species, it is unclear if she has five fingers in Shadow of Oblivion due to the size of her gauntlets, rarely raising her hands on camera, and the general lack of side views compared to Seeds of Evil, though she is shown to have five fingers in Shadow of Oblivion's promotional art and comic adaptation.
