Free-standing turrets were heavy weapons utilized by the Mendel-Gruman Corporation during the events of Turok.

Appearance

Both turret variants feature a large, leg-like mount. The RPG variant of the turret is a blue-tinted steel, with a side-loading pod of rockets. The chaingun variant looks like a mounted ORO War Horse minigun.

Gameplay

Single-player

This weapon is only found within the single-player and cooperative elements of Turok. Being a mounted turret, the weapon stops the player from being able to move freely, but offers massive firepower as a tradeoff. The chaingun variant operates much akin to the War Horse, but features higher accuracy, while also suffering from an overheat mechanic should the player fire for too long. The RPG variant doesn't feature such drawbacks, and can be fired indefinitely.

History

Following a confrontation with Mama Scarface and the retrieval of the comm unit, Joseph Turok would enter an abandoned Mendel-Gruman complex inhabited by albino Utahraptors. An operational free-standing chaingun would be available and used by Turok, killing a dozen of the dinosaurs with it as they attempted to swarm him. Later, as Roland Kane tried to escape in a Type 07 Starship, Joseph Turok would utilize an RPG variant of this turret to destroy his ship and bring it down, taking only three rockets to finish it off.

At some point during Whiskey Company's time on the terraformed planet, an RPG variant of this turret was used by Alpha Team to get through a Mendel-Gruman outpost, all in an effort to reach Gamma Team.
