  • Hey, Preda. Since Fandom put out an update on the status of portable infoboxes, I've been looking into trying to wrap my brain around the dang things so that we can update. But, as usual, I'm making a mess of things. Here's what I was going for:

Over on the Star Wars wiki, they have a theme system set up where you specify a "type" in the infobox as you're making it, and that type makes the infobox a specific color. These colors are typed up on a InfoboxColors.css page which works in conjunction with an Infoboxes.css page. Supposedly, both CSS pages are imported to run from that wiki's Common.css page. The idea being that if I wanted to use the Character template in an article, and the article was for a Jedi, I could write "|type=Jedi" in the infobox template on the article's edit page and the infobox would take on the Jedi-specific colors noted in InfoboxColors.css. You can see where I tried to set us up on a similar system, using our Item Infobox template as a test; I didn't get very far, though, and I'm not sure why.

So I figure one of two things is happening. 1. I'm incredibly incompetent (very likely!) and missing some key code somewhere that would make all of this work; or 2. We have some code already in place that's overriding this theme system.

Do you have any ideas or insights? I'd love to go ahead and get us transferred over to the portable infoboxes now that a.) it's supposedly easier to use, and b.) I understand how it works even just a little bit more.

We do have an issue that I'm also not sure how to fix: our titles and headers in the portable infobox setup we are currently using have these bright green borders around them. It's the same green that we use for the H1/H2/etc. headers on the article bodies, and I don't know how to get it to stop. See the test over on this sandbox page. There's also a larger white border between Other Names and Biological Information that I'd like to sort out as well.

So for the moment, our Item Infobox template is out of order, but at least it's one of the lesser-used templates.

And if you can't/don't figure this out, that's fine. We can always flag one of the Fandom staff and have them take a look at it.

    Cheers

    • Edit: Just redug the code and saw the headers were made to be gray. I'm still of the mind we should have fully colored infoboxes in that case.

    • I'm not seeing any offset on my end, so maybe it's your display? idk

That variable has the result I want, but I wonder if it's possible to modify it via CSS. That way we could set it by theme and have one fewer variable cluttering the infobox.

I made a couple of new test infoboxes. In order we have colored border/gray headers, colored border/colored headers, and no border/colored headers. Personally, I'm not a fan of the second one as it seems too distracting, and it would just get worse for the infoboxes that have multiple headers/sections. I kind of like the no border/colored headers. With the way the text fields are set up, a border isn't entirely necessary, but the headers keep the color scheme. (The one theme I'm thinking this would be a problem with with our current color setup is the comics theme, but I have a couple of theme-specific ideas for that one.)

  • Since there are no sources that state those stats, I think those numbers for Mama Scarface in the "Tyrannosaurus rex" page should be removed as well.

  • If Turok were to be revived, which game company would you have the most faith in doing it properly?

  • How would you list the Turok games from favorite to least favorite?

  • I watched someone's commentary playthrough of Turok, and when he got to "Bad Blood", he said that he swears the level was originally going to be split into two levels, and the second level of the two was going to have a name if its own. Is this true or not? (I think he's just nitpicking about the level's length, but I want to make sure)

  • Having played Turok 2008 for a while now, I noticed that Mama Scarface's size is inconsistent at times. First off, she appears to be smaller during gameplay than in cutscenes (like in "An Eye for an Eye" for example; she definitely appears to be larger when Turok is seen stabbing her head than when you stand next to her). Secondly, Scarface appears to be larger in "End of the Road" than in "Mother Superior" and "An Eye for an Eye" (in gameplay) (I found this out by comparing her to an RPG explosion and by standing next to her foot in the levels). Lastly, in the two cutscenes where Turok stabs Mama Scarface, the dinosaur seems bigger in the second cutscene than in the first one (maybe the camera angles make it seem that way, but that is what it seems like to me). So what is Scarface's "true" size? By the way, if you never noticed this before, then I apologize, since this will probably bother you whenever you play Turok 2008 from now on.

Perhaps they made her larger in "End of the Road" because she is not a boss in that level (you are not supposed to fight her), and there are safe spots in that area. Of course, none of this is confirmed so we don't know for sure. If anything, all of that may just be accidental.

    • Dang it. Double posted by accident because I was attempting to fix a typo.

  • I mean the purple text. Is it with the Wikia.css? I'd like to know because I'd like to do it on my message wall on the Land Before Time wiki.

  • Ever. Only JTH. I had no idea it was a ripoff of Turok 2008.
