- "This pistol is accurate and powerful at close range and comes equipped with a Secondary burst fire mode. It can be Dual Wielded."
- —Turok manual[1]
The ORO HOG 9mm handgun is a basic, semi-automatic handgun that was first introduced in Turok. It acts as a backup sidearm for members of Whiskey Company, Wolf Pack, and the Mendel-Gruman Corporation.
Appearance[]
This pistol appears as a silver-barreled, snub-nosed weapon. It is small, compact, and features iron sights for its user, which are shaped much like a modern day M1911's iron sights.
Gameplay[]
Single-player[]
This weapon is surprisingly effective despite its sidearm status. It is able to take down a variety of enemy types, and it, like most weapons, is also headshot capable. It fires its rounds as fast as the player can press the trigger, and can hold a lot of ammo in reserve. Its range is short; however, when utilized in close quarters it can easily down the most rudimentary enemies pretty quickly.
This weapon is able to be dual-wielded, and pairing this weapon with an FP9 SMG or Enforcer shotgun will result in a deadly combination.
The HOG possesses a light on its chassis that will denote the player's ammunition count as they run through a magazine. The light will turn on, its default being a blinking yellow after nine rounds are fired. It will shift to a blinking red as twelve are fired, and then stop blinking but remain red as the weapon's ammunition is fully expended, remaining this way until the HOG is reloaded.
Multiplayer[]
This weapon is an obtainable pickup found in most, if not all maps. Possessing the same in-game statistics as its single-player counterpart, its effectiveness is dramatically decreased, as other players will be able to utilize weapons that outclass the HOG with higher efficiency in general.
Secondary function[]
This function allows the HOG to act like a short range burst-fire rifle, allowing the weapon to fire three rounds in a quick succession. This is countered by high recoil and the weapon's low magazine capacity, meaning five bursts will empty one, but it nonetheless remains an option.
Pickups[]
- ORO HOG 9mm handgun: Restores varied amount of ammo.
- Pistol ammo: Restores 45 handgun bullets.
History[]
The HOG would see limited use during Whiskey Company's time on the terraformed planet, remaining as most people's sidearm to be used in emergency scenarios. During a bout of anger and paranoia, Logan would pull a handgun on Joseph Turok, accusing him of being a traitor and coming close to pulling the trigger, only for Slade to stop him. Much later, as Whiskey's remnants were captured by Roland Kane and John Grimes, the former would be in possession of one of these sidearms. As Cowboy spoke up in Turok's defense following Kane's demeaning remarks, the latter would shoot the former with the weapon, killing him instantly.
