- For the weapon featured in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, see Pulse Rifle.
- "The L66 is an accurate, fully automatic pulse rifle that fires armor-piercing deleted uranium slugs. The weapon quickly overheats when fired in sustained bursts. Its Secondary fire is a rapid-fire Disruption Grenade launcher. These grenades knock down the enemy or blows them out from under cover so that you can get a clear shot at them."
- —Turok manual[1]
The ORO L66 pulse rifle is a uranium slug-firing automatic rifle manufactured by ORO that was first introduced during the events of Turok. A staple of the Elite units within the Mendel-Gruman Corporation, Whiskey Company encountered the weapon commonly while on the terraformed planet.
Appearance[]
The L66 features a distinct, long chassis, with blue lighting running up its length. A real-time ammunition indicator and temperature gauge exist on the weapon. The pulse rifle features a traditional grip and stock, lacking the thumbhole stock of the FP9 SMG or Enforcer.
Gameplay[]
Single-player[]
The gameplay successor to the FP9, the L66 is a highly accurate pulse rifle featuring a high magazine capacity, low recoil, and a highly useful secondary utility. This weapon marks a start contrast from the traditional weapons the player starts out with, featuring a proper, real-time ammunition counter, and an overheat function, which prevents the weapon from firing if it is used for too long. Proper trigger discipline allows this weapon to circumvent this, running through its entire magazine without stopping; this in effect can potentially double this weapon's damage output compared to an FP9 prior to a reload.
Multiplayer[]
Following the FP9 and Enforcer, the L66 pulse rifle is one of, if not the most effective weapon in multiplayer, boasting accessibility, precision, and high damage. It is a rarer pickup compared to the FP9 SMG and Enforcer, on a similar rarity to the C9 Perforator.
Secondary function[]
The L66 pulse rifle's secondary function is a disruption grenade. This is able to be fired in a single shot, or in a burst of three, and when they detonate they will launch enemies into the air through sheer concussive force. The grenade has the ability to kill enemies should it propel them far enough, but it is mostly a crowd-clearing knockback device. Twelve can be held overall, including the three at the ready, and reloading the grenades is a relatively quick process.
Pickups[]
- ORO L66 pulse rifle: Restores 100 pulse rifle rounds.
- Pulse Rifle Ammo: Restores 100 pulse rifle rounds.
History[]
While Whiskey Company members would rarely use the L66, Mendel-Gruman Elites would run it as the primary weapon of their loadout. It would be seen repeatedly as a result, with Joseph Turok getting acquainted with it.
Achievements and Trophies[]
Below is a list of achievements and trophies related to the L66 pulse rifle.
Production notes[]
At some point during Turok's development, this weapon was originally intended to be a railgun, with the weapon's name in the game's files, along with developer-uploaded images of the weapon supporting this. Additionally, it was one of the few weapons seen in unfinished media for Turok 2, with Mendel-Gruman soldiers using the weapon in the unreleased trailer for the title. Notably, it would fire conventional yellow rounds instead of blue in this trailer.
