Parasaurolophus are large herbivorous dinosaurs that appear in both Turok: Evolution and Turok.

Appearance

Turok: Evolution

In Evolution, they are about seven to nine feet tall and 15 to 20 feet long. They come in a yellow coloration mixed with some blotches of brown. They are very reminiscent of their real life counterparts, featuring a distinctive crest on their heads.

Turok

Turok features a very similar design for the animal, although these creatures are now a dark gray coloration with some green. They also feature a more fitting duckbill design for their mouths.

Gameplay

Turok: Evolution

In Turok: Evolution, the Parasaurolophus appear during the game's second chapter. Although they're unable to harm the player, they can be killed.

Turok

Much like Evolution, Parasaurolophus are docile herbivores that are usually found grazing on shrubbery. While they can harm the player, they won't go out of their way to. Carnivorous dinosaurs will also attempt to hunt and kill these animals, as the Giganotosaurus displays.

History

Turok: Evolution

While stalking through the swamps of Jungalus Vulgarimicus, Tal'Set would come across a long deceased Parasaurolophus, likely preyed upon by the Utahraptors in the region. As Tal'Set and Genn flew over the Lost Land, they would pass by another herd of Parasaurolophus below, grazing by a riverside. Another small family would be seen trekking up a path on the side of a mountain, following in the path of multiple Stegosaurus.

Turok

Shortly after crash-landing on the backwater planet, Joseph Turok would come across a solitary Parasaurolophus by a cliffside. A nearby nesting Utahraptor would arrive, causing a minor commotion. After escaping MG-20B, both Slade and Turok would find a duo of Parasaurolophus being pursued by a Giganotosaurus. Taking advantage of the chaos, along with the timely arrival of Utahraptors, the two would escape into a cave system on the planet, where they'd find a deceased member of the species. Another Parasaurolophus would be encountered after Slade and Turok rendezvoused with Reese.

Multiple Parasaurolophus would be encountered in the area around Mother Superior before and after nightfall, with Utahraptor and Dilophosaurus alike preying on them. Another large herd would be seen as a volcano on the planet underwent a major eruption. Dilophosauruses nearby would opportunistically prey on the panicking dinosaurs, some of which were inadvertently struck by the volcano's rocky projectiles. After this encounter, no more Parasaurolophus would be seen by Whiskey Company.

Production notes

During the development of Turok: Evolution this dinosaur was intended to appear during Chapter 1: Into the Jungle and at different sporadic points during Chapter 2: Airborne. Multiple screenshots from early builds show them grazing by the river seen in the game's intro level, however they'd ultimately be replaced by Stegosaurus and Triceratops.
