Overview

"Fires high-energy particle blasts. This one can break down the atomic structure of the enemy, first causing cessation of movement at the molecular level, and then... never mind, try it and see."
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter manual[1]

The Particle Accelerator, also called the Shockwave Weapon, is a weapon that made its first appearance in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. It is known for its unique way of disposing enemies.

The weapon breaks down its victim's atomic structure and causes them to freeze until they explode.

Appearance[]

The Particle Accelerator is a futuristic cannon with blue glowing bolts that rotate constantly. The bolts generate electricity while it is not being fired.

Gameplay[]

The Particle Accelerator is a very unique weapon, as it is one of the few weapons that must be charged. The player can either tap the fire button for a single discharge, which will dispose of a single human-sized enemy, or hold down the fire button for a bigger discharge. The longer the weapon is charged, the more effective the discharge will be. When fired, any enemy within its blast radius will freeze. The enemy(ies) will then begin to fade to black and emit static. Eventually, they explode, sending their charred remains flying.

This weapon is suited better against groups of human-sized enemies (Poachers, Ancient Warriors, Leapers, Demons, and even Cyborgs). It is not always effective against bigger enemies, such as the Pur-Lin, requiring up to two full charges to take them out.

The Particle Accelerator can be fired consecutively. It consumes two Energy rounds per shot and 10 cells when fully charged. The Particle Accelerator shares its ammo with both the Pulse Rifle and Alien Weapon.

Ammo Pickups[]

  • Weapon: Restores 100 energy rounds.
  • Large E-Cell: Restores 50 energy rounds.
  • Small E-Cell: Restores 25 energy rounds.

Trivia[]

  • This weapon is referred to as the Particle Accelerator in the game's instruction manual. When the weapon is picked up in-game, however, it's called the Shockwave Weapon for reasons unknown. Most fans associate the weapon with the name Particle Accelerator despite this error.
  • This weapon could be considered a prototype for the Nuke that would later appear in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, as both weapons function similarly and even kill enemies in the same way.
