The Lost Land -II-

The Lost Land as it appears in Turok: Evolution, the only full and canonical map known.

The Lost Land is the main setting of the Turok series published by Acclaim Entertainment. It is regarded as the "interdimensional sewer" of the universe; all manner of life from every corner of time and space can be transported here by way of randomly-appearing portals or tears in reality.

The Lost Land is inhabited by many species from all across the universe, with some even being the same species separated by millions of years of evolution and genetic tampering. These include the Dinosoids, Fireborn, Dinosaurs, Blind Ones, and Humans.

Appearance

The Lost Land usually appears as a lush jungle or tropical rainforest. However, it contains a multitude of different environments including mountain ranges, underground caverns, plains, deserts, highlands, and deep oceans.

Origin

At some point in time, a being called the Primagen left his universe in search of the answers to life. In order to surpass the limits of time and space, he restructured his Lightship with experimental technology before setting off. During his expedition, the craft's hull began to wear out. A small hull breach near the core of the vessel caused its warp drive to malfunction and propelled the Lightship into a series of strange realms, eventually coming to rest in a void between them.

The Lightship, now disabled, trapped the Primagen within this bizarre region outside of space. Upon realizing the reality of his situation, he decided to enter a state of suspended animation and wait out his predicament. As he slept, his damaged vessel continued to leak energy into the space around it, causing small tears in time and space to begin opening around the ship. These portals would pull in vast amounts of matter from other worlds, which began accumulating around the disabled vessel. After millennia, the matter around the vessel had formed into a crude planet, separated from the space around it by a mass of energy which came to be known as the Netherscape. Made habitable by the technology of the Lightship, the planet itself eventually became known as the Lost Land by the denizens who wound up there.
